    Mother’s day, 2nd Sunday in May. Mother’s day was first observed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Grafton, West Virginia, on may 10, 1908. Six years later, President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed the second Sunday in May for public observance of the holiday. Mother’s day was founded by Miss Anna M. Jarvis of Philadelphia. It is now observed in many countries all around the world, including England, France, Sweden, Denmark, India, China, and Mexico. Pink carnations are worn for a living mother and white if the mother is dead. Children honor their mothers on this day with gifts and visits.
